PROJECT
d&b audiotechnik, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of professional loudspeaker systems for the entertainment industry, asked The Fifth Estate to produce a short film highlighting the benefits of its new PA system, the KSL, which was being used on tour in the UK by one of the most popular bands of current times, The 1975. The film would be part of d&b’s ‘User experience’ series.
SOLUTION
Our knowledge of the d&b product range and of the audio demands of concert touring were valuable assets in this project. We visited the touring crew as they were setting up in Manchester, and filmed interviews with the front-of-house sound engineer, monitor engineer and system engineer, discussing their very positive experiences with the KSL system. We also shot plenty of b-roll footage of the concert setup, and particularly the sound crew preparing and fine-tuning the loudspeaker arrays. We then edited the film at our office in Brighton before handing it over to d&b.
RESULT
The resulting video engages its intended professional audio audience with the insights of the highly experienced interviewees, while illustrating the key benefits of the product in question. At the same time, it uses beautifully-shot b-roll footage and techniques to deliver something of the atmosphere of a modern concert touring production and, of course, the show itself.
